“DIOR UNTOLD” The history of Dior Perfumes in a brand new podcast series
For the first time ever, the tales of Dior Perfumes are told in a podcast series, providing an opportunity to dive into the incredible story of Christian Dior and the origins of the fragrances that made him a legend. This immersion in sound brimming with emotion is marked by memorable places in Provence, Paris and Normandy. The tales are punctuated with sensitive portraits of all those who played an important part in the history of Dior Perfumes.
The story begins in Grasse, Christian Dior’s Favourite Place, which is still the domain of Dior Perfumes today. The Indian Summer of 1954 was a particularly good one for the couturier-perfumer. Between each of the Paris Collections, he was finally able to enjoy the pleasure of happy days spent at The Château de la Colle Noire located in Montauroux, right in the Centre of the Fayence region. This is where he planted acres of centifolia rose, almond trees, vines and olive trees, along with lavender and jasmine, fulfilling the ultimate dream of this Normandy native, who loved gardens and flowers. Before him stretched fields of fragrant Jasmine Grandiflorum. Accompanied by the famous perfumer Edmond Roudnitska, he would hear the sounds of radiant nature and the lilting accents of the flower-pickers, hard at work since the early hours. They needed to work quickly, as by midday, picking was over.
This sensorial first scene, bathed in sun and buzzing with the hum of cicadas, introduces the guiding theme of this brand new podcast: Christian Dior’s passion for flowers, which shaped his dazzling creativity throughout his life.
In a few select scenes, we journey from Granville to Paris, from the splendour of the Belle Epoque to the Austerity of the war years. From one perfume to the next, one place leads to another, and the new look revolution suddenly appears, accompanied by the voice of Christian Dior himself. A few precise words convey the totally new aspect of his truly audacious flower-woman, of his triumphant, petticoated looks, inspired by reminiscences of an ideal childhood. We learn of the decisive aesthetic influences – shades of pink and grey, roses, and a gentle way of life – from the family home in Granville. At each decisive moment, sensitive commentaries shed light on the story – as seen in the personal and poetic words of François Demachy, Dior Perfumer–Creator. Several times he describes the perfumes that launched the dior legend, such as The Green Chypre of Miss Dior, and the fresh lily of the valley of Diorissimo. touched by the beauty of the above-mentioned places, he also evokes the soul of la colle noire, which has remained intact.
Like a well-documented inside journey, “Dior Untold” is a series of podcasts that invites us to dive into the magical, eventful story of a genius creator. If Dior Perfumes could talk…
